The recs post, part one

First of all, I got three fantastic Indiana Jones stories this year! My Yuletide gift proper is Could It Be Simple?, and it's wonderful; Indy and Marion digging in Peru. Perfectly normal field school, nothing extraterrestrial or divine to intervene. Marion being her awesome self, Indy being a good professor and not allowing his other "archaeological" pursuits to get in the way. :D
Then I got two Yuletide Madness stories as well! One is a drabble: Indiana Jones and the Profile of Soil, and the other...well, the other is simply astonishing, for those of you who know me IRL. Respectfully Decline is not only a great little glimpse into late 70's and early 80's theoretical change in the field, but...okay, seriously, is the author somebody I actually know or what?!?! My mouth was literally hanging open when I read this.
all your heart-melodies, Lilo & Stitch.
I already rec'd this here but it's definitely worth linking to again.
Sisters of Bilhah, The Handmaid's Tale (Atwood).
A great exploration of the world outside Gilead, with a narrator whose experiences demonstrate that although they might not have Handmaids out there, it's still far from great for women.
The Ballad of Mirrim and Menolly's Ride, Dragonriders of Pern (McCaffrey).
hellosarah should probably read this one, for sure. Mirrim and Menolly time it back and forth, trying to save Pern, but there's real consequences for the flapping of a fire lizard's wing here, both happy and sad.
All the Single Ladies, Glee.
A look into the daily lives of the girls of Glee; the Rachel portion is especially funny and spot-on.
Fearless, Dead Like Me.
Mason, trying to get with Betty in events prior to George joining the reapers.
Itty Bitty and the H.O.G., Pushing Daisies.
Man, this story is so much like the show in style and substance! Olive is wholly herself, and the case is just spectacular.
"We should have met in Finavir", Tigana and The Fionavar Tapestry (Kay).
While I need to obtain all these books still, I know the general lay of the land in each, and that was enough to make this story resonate.
Jigsaw, The Prestige.
Post-movie scene, with Borden (the one who loved Sarah) meeting Olivia.
The Flight of the Queen, Ever After.
I <3 this one so much! The dialogue and action feel like canon; I can see every part of it perfectly.
And Climb On Every Rung, Bridge to Terabithia (Paterson).
Jess, ten years down the line, still dreaming of Leslie and trying to get his life together.
Rule Number Three, Dark Tower series (King).
If King could write himself into the story, why not this author? And why couldn't she give some of the ka-tet a happier ending with Roland than they got in-world? :D
