The current legislation regarding the limitations on the number of consecutive terms any politician may serve in office is considerably more controversial than any discussing term limits pre-Tracking days. Yet despite the changes in our understanding of life and longevity, the centralissue arguments made in regards to this issue remain essentially the same. Therefore, I feel that term limits should be in accordance with the laws established prior to the discovery of Tracks, and should be maintained with a singular life Track in mind.
At present, the president of the United States is elected to serve a four year term and may only serve two consecutive terms, if elected to o so. There has never been is no precedent for a person to serve as president for an entire life Track, much less multiple Tracks. A comparative look at the monarchies of other countries reveals that they too regard power as the jurisdiction of solely on life Track. I speculate that this is because
Two critical arguments are made by candidates at election time. One, by the incumbent, is that he or she has the experience in his or her position to remain there. The candidate wishes the voters to perceive in him or herself some form of continuity. The counter argument, which is especially powerful during times of economic or political crisis, is that a newcomer provides a "breath of fresh air", so to speak. This candidategenerally attempts to imply that he or she can bring a new perspective to the often literal but usually figurative table on issues that continue to plague the affected voting populace. These two arguments, for continuity and experience, or for change and relative inexperience when it comes to the political "game" persist originated pre-Tracking days and persist to this day. Changes in our understanding of life Track are reflected in the language of the arguments as they are made today.
One of the new arguments that political candidates make is that they should be insome sense re-elected because they have a Track that who was a prominent figure in politics. Conversely, other candidates argue that they are better suited to the job because they don't have any prior biases from having been someone in that position before. Neither argument is particularly valid, in my opinion. Just because a person has one kind of Track or another doesn't does not should not imply that that person is best suited for a particular political position. As we do not discriminate from in the hiring process against a person who has one kind of Track that might not appear appropriate for the job, so we also do not discriminate towards someone whose Track thus far has led that person to the same job repeatedly. These two sets of arguments can be made for and against term limits as well.
At present, presidents in these United States serve out atbest most two consecutive four year terms, if elected to do so. Senators serve six year terms, and representatives represent their constituents for two years. In the case of the latter two groups of politicians, there is a possibility that their consecutive terms may last until the end of their current lives. While it is of course impossible for the next Track of one of these individuals to take office as a baby, as an adult he or she may want to run for an office. It should not, however, necessarily be assumed that it is the prior Track that is the driving force behind this decision. Rather, it should be regarded as possible that the particular individual has merit as a political candidate. Establishing a ban on consecutive Tracks holding political office discounts the individual's own merit. A comparative look at the monarchical systems of other countries reveals that these governments perceive the line chain of power to pass through the offspring of one and only one Track. [TOO GENERAL? LOOK AT SPAIN AS AN EXAMPLE.]
