HSFS: Day 7 of 21: Rafting in Durango

Today was the annual river raft trip for HSFS. We had lunch at a park near the Animas River before going over to the raft company's HQ (which was, uh, in the parking lot of the Albertson's). It was slightly chaotic; for some reason there are a few kids who just don't seem to hear directions unless they are specifically delivered to them individually :-P Nonetheless, we all got on the bus to go to the launch area.
Us Crow Canyon staff (Mary, Wendi, Jerome, Bill, Margie & Fred, and Paul and I) got a boat to ourselves. Heh. This enabled us to seek out anddestroy thoroughly soak the kids, although they most likely got the better of us, since they had buckets. Our boat was self-bailing, so did not require a bucket. There were a couple of good ambushes behind bridges and when rafts got stuck. A bunch of us got in the river; it was pretty damn cold but not so bad that I didn't swim around a little.
After rafting, the kids got to do their own thing in town and the staff went for SUSHI! Poor Paul...we (Mary and Wendi and I) kind of dragged him along. :) Fortunately, his friend Fumi had been stranded in Durango since yesterday night and came along for dinner, and was thus able to help in the ordering of things-Paul-will-eat. I had a lot of very very yummy rolls. And also ice cream, later. Food is good in Durango.
And then I went to the bead store and spent most of my gift certificate on a strand of amber and a little amethyst squirrel before we drove home. :D
Animals sighted:
-one squirrel, nearly run over this morning
-two deer; one near the river, one almost hit on the way home
-one GBH flying over the river
-one coyote, also almost hit on the way home
-many little birdies
