New York (slightly expanded):

In case you forgot, Ronnie and I got tapped to help my sister move to NYC for her summer internship. We drove there with my dad.

Oh my god did it take a long time to drive through Manhattan. You'd think that we'd only do it, y'know, the ONE TIME, but since we were going to also go back to New Jersey to visit one of my dad's college friends we actually drove through Manhattan SEVERAL TIMES. Oh, and coming "back" from New Jersey took THREE HOURS because there were TWO accidents on the freeway, and then we drove through the fucking Holland Tunnel AGAIN.

Anyway.

We stayed in a Sheraton in Flushing courtesy of my dad. He was very obsessed with obtaining all the freebies that came with the room...breakfast buffet, evening hors d'oeurves, the Chinese newspaper that showed up at the door in the mornings. From the window (we were on the sixteenth floor) I could see the US Tennis Center and the Unisphere (I think that's what it's called) and the two dealies from the World's Fair that are in "Men In Black". There were three weddings and their subsequent receptions held on the day we arrived. Fortunately, that wasn't very noisy...not that I would've heard any of it, I'm sure, because my dad's snoring would've drowned it out.

On Father's Day, Ronnie and I went to the American Museum of Natural History. We only managed to see two of the special exhibitions and one of the incredible dinosaur halls before we had to meet my sister and dad back at her apartment to go to New Jersey (they were at least half an hour late, though). The live frogs were so cute. There were a couple of cannibalistic species there, as well as a Chinese species that can glide because they have Really Big Toes. The other special exhibit we went to was on Petra, which is (uh, was) a major trade center for the Nabateans in the Middle East (Jordan, I think) before getting gobbled up by the Roman empire and falling apart. The treasury building is in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: it's where the finale takes place. Very cool stuff.

And the dinosaurs. And the dinosaurs.

On Monday, however, we didn't manage to go back to the museum...we went to Central Park again and saw the pond and some black waterfowl that were trying to catch a goldfish. And then we saw "Rent" with my sister. With Scary Spice as Mimi. (She was pretty good. I wish we could see it again between 7/5-7/17 though, because Jai from Queer Eye is playing Angel again and I just *heart* him.) I haven't exactly stopped listening to the soundtrack since we got home.

Tuesday we went back to the AMNH and looked at the dinosaurs and megafauna and protosquirrels and the GIANT FUCKING BLUE WHALE. And then on Wednesday we went home.

Talking about my dad. It's not very coherent. )

We saw "Fahrenheit 9/11" yesterday. It wasn't as good a film as "Bowling For Columbine" and it could've used some serious editing. But it was still interesting.

I seriously can't stop listening to Rent.
